The Bluest Eye

I had read the novel “The Bluest Eye” in high school for its systematic features. Now in college I read the novel with Freudian lens, giving the novel a deeper meaning. I was able to become more fascinated with each character and I was able to understand their flaws and mindset

Eight Bites

For both my Exploratory and Critical Analysis Essays I spoke upon the short story “Eight Bites”. I addressed Freudian concepts within both essays by stating how the childhood trauma caused the main character to not have a proper balance between the ego, superego and id. Which resulted in the development of body dysmorphia and other psychological issues.

Potty Training

This photo reminds me of the Psychosexual stages of Development. Specifically the Anal stage; where infants get pleasure from eliminating bowel and bladder. During this stage potty training happens as seen in the photo, and during potty training it is the first time child will be in conflict with their parents. This is due to the child’s superego beginning to develop and having different desire than their parents. This Psychosexual stage can also impact ones adult personality. One may be either Anal retentive or Anal expulsive. An Anal retentive personality is someone who is fussy, a compulsive cleaner, and super organized. While on the other hand an Anal expulsive personality would be careless, messy/ sloppy and disorganized.

Psychoanalytic Perspective

With this cartoon, it obvious that an older man is trying to “fix” a young boys mind. I interpreted the picture as Freud, taking apart the brain of adolescents, and trying to piece it together as he came up with his theories for Psychoanalysis; and how our childhood impacts our personalities and beings as adults.

FIQWS- Annotated Image

This image reminds me of the yellow wallpaper for many reasons. For starters cages now tend to look more modern, therefore the detail of the cage makes me resemble it to the time period the yellow wallpaper was written(1892). The image shows a women in a cage and she looks very uncomfortable. Which I connected it to the Yellow wallpaper because the women was upset about her mental health and how she kept getting disregarded and how she had to hide her writing
